Celebrating the Life of a World Class Bass Player

Celebrating the Life of a World Class Bass Player

Detroit Music Station

His father was the great Motown Records’ Funk Brother James Jamerson, who played bass guitar on more number 1 pop hits than anyone in the history of music – including the Beatles. But James Jamerson, Jr. was an accomplished bass player in his own rite, building a career as a much-sought-after  session bass player for such stars as Valerie Simpson (of Ashford & Simpson fame), B.B. King, Bob Dylan, 5th Dimension and Herb Albert, to name but a few.  Sadly, we learned yesterday of his passing.

We can only imagine how difficult it must have been to be a bass player in the shadow of the greatest bass player of all time, but we know how proud Sr. would have been of his son’s many accomplishments. Of all those accomplishments and all the great songs James Jamerson, Jr. performed on over the years, our greatest memory of him will always be the disco-era  group he founded with partner David Williams in the late 1970’s called CHANSON.   Their one and only hit was a great one called “Don’t Hold Back”  and really showcases James’ bass playing skills.  So to help celebrate this great musician’s life, we ask you all to crank this song up and join us in doing the Latino Hustle.  R.I.P. Mr.  Jamerson.
