Canned Heat Headlines Detroit’s Woodstock 50th Anniversary Celebration

This town is about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest music festivals in the history of rock and roll. Detroit style. On Saturday, August 10, hundreds of hippy freaks from back in the day – along with many new ones – will gather at the beautiful Michigan State Park – Proud Lake Recreation Area – located northwest of Detroit in Commerce Township to celebrate WOODSTOCK In The D. To do this, promoter Michele Lundgren and her 60’s Girl Productions team have brought in none-other than the greatest psychedelic hippie band in the world – CANNED HEAT – whose music is perhaps most synonymous with the original Woodstock held on Max Yagur’s Dairy Farm 50 years ago. Other acts performing at this one-day show include P-Funk All Star MARUGA BOOKER – who also performed at the original Woodstock with THE TIM HARDIN BAND, Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Billy Davis, who attended the original festival with his good buddy, Jimmi Hendrix, and THE SCOTT MORGAN BAND. 60’s hippy music tribute bands THE MAGIC BUS and ITCHYCOO PARK will also perform.

We’re pretty sure the sex and drug part may be a little different than 50 years ago for many of the attendees, but we promise this will be a rock and roll event for the ages. It’s nearly sold out and will be held rain or shine – 10:a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $55 for general admission (plus Michigan park-entry fee of $11 without enhanced license plate).
