A new Queen of Detroit Blues was crowned this past summer and her name is Thornetta Davis.  Thornetta has been singing Blues since she was kid and has performed with such musical greats as Gladys Knight, Etta James and Bonnie Raitt.  She sang backup on Bob Seger’s 1991 album The Fire Inside, and Kid Rock’s albums Devil Without a Cause (1998) and Kid Rock (2003).  She also sang on the former Detroit Blues Queen Alberta Adams’ 2008 album Detroit Is My Home, so it came as no surprise to most that Ms. Davis would be asked to step into the very large shoes of the beloved Ms. Adam’s after her passing in late 2014.

But it’s not until you hear the many other female blues singers in this town do you realize what a great honor being crowned Queen Of  The Blues in Detroit truly is.  Artist like Nikki James, Misty Love, Sky Covington, Terrie Lea, Twyla Birdsong, Lady Theo, Champagne, Maggie McCabe, Lady TKathleen Murray, Pricilla Price, Nikki Pearse, Leslie Nelson, Sandy Mulligan, Cubie, Cee Cee Collins, Kymberly Wright and Marlene Wieczorek could all have very well been named to this honor.  Now imagine all of these artists on one stage in one evening to help celebrate the crowning of Ms. Davis.  That is exactly what happened at the Hasting St. Ballroom on August 26, 2015.  If you cannot even fathom such an evening, you are in luck because we are very excited to bring you that exact show in its entirety.  A show the Detroit Blues Society calls Blues Girls of Summer 2015.  Crank it up and enjoy!
